Wedding Trends 2023: Predictions That Won’t Cost the Earth

The wedding trends of 2023 are inspired by our recent past, and our current need to save money, and the planet.

This year, weddings came back, and we were all so delighted to fully experience them again. Thousands of celebrations took place in 2022, with couples across the country all clamouring to reschedule their big day, after two years of disruptions. But with so many weddings taking place this year, what will the wedding trends of 2023 be like? How will they have changed?

For me, I believe the wedding trends of 2023 will be about realness, sustainability, and intimacy. All things we craved during the pandemic, and as such, are still influencing the way we tie the knot. Over the last couple of years, elopements and micro-weddings have been hugely popular. As have couples’ keenness to keep things local, using in-season produce.

These shifts in wedding priorities today, are a reflection of the pandemic, and I see no signs of them changing in the trends of 2023.

The Wedding Trends of 2023

In this post, I share the wedding trends of 2023 that are not only good for the planet, but also your budget!

Smaller Weddings

As I mentioned above, the micro-wedding scene has been huge. For so many years, couples have struggled with the financial, and emotional cost of inviting hundreds of guests to their wedding. But thankfully now, and as we look to the trends of 2023, couples should no longer feel the pressure to put together such a massive wedding.

With a limited guest list, there are of course downsides, such as having to leave people out. But what you’re left with are the core people you actually want to be there with you on your wedding day. Your real loved ones. And of course, by cutting down the guest list, you’re also trimming the overall cost.

Local Wedding Venues

As a wedding planner, I have seen a surge of bookings for local venues next year. A move away from destination celebrations, and events far from home. And it’s a wedding trend for 2023 this is being reflected worldwide. Money and planet conscious couples everywhere are choosing to tie the knot somewhere that won’t involve a whole lot of travel, and will therefore save a lot of money.

If you’re struggling to find a local wedding venue, let me join the search and I’ll help you find the perfect space at the right price. Check out my affordable wedding planning packages to see how we can make it happen!

Less Over the Top Decor

Key to the wedding styling trends of 2023 is minimalism. No flashy centrepieces, and giant flower walls. Just simple décor that celebrates the venue you’ve selected, and doesn’t distract from events taking place.

Think lots of greenery, candles, and the use of statement pieces to create the overall vibe.

Natural Wedding Photography

Couples in 2023 will be a lot less drawn to the staged shots often seen in traditional wedding photography. And instead they’ll desire much more naturalistic shots. Candid wedding photography that captures the action and emotion in the moment, using an editorial style.

This type of photography requires a lot more skill from your photographer, but when done well, can create a look that feels almost Vogue-like.

Renting a Wedding Dress

Modern brides are unconcerned with creating expensive heirlooms, and are instead opting to rent their wedding dress. This boom in borrowing has started a whole new industry for bridal shops and brands, who can now simply hold stock of a range of gowns, and simply hire them out when needed. Which for the bride can often offer huge savings.

For example, the bridal gown Carrie Symonds wore when marrying Boris Johnson cost £45 from MyWardrobe HQ. An absolute snip compared to the original price of her Christos Costarellos gown, which was a mere £2,830!
